This Tutor led Classroom based training course is designed to ensure that operators can safely and effectively use access equipment such as scissor lifts, boom lifts (cherry pickers), and vertical lifts. The course meets legal and safety standards for working at height and is essential for anyone operating or supervising MEWPs on site.

🏗️ Introduction to MEWPs

• Types of MEWPs: scissor lifts, articulated boom lifts, telescopic booms, etc.
• Common uses in construction, maintenance, warehousing, and events
• Advantages and limitations of each type

⚠️ Legislation & Responsibilities

• Health and Safety legislation for working at height
• Operator and employer duties under the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act

🛠️ Pre-Use Inspection and Risk Assessment

• Daily safety checks and inspection routines
• Identifying faults, reporting defects, and tagging procedures
• Assessing the working environment: ground conditions, overhead hazards, weather, and traffic

🧯 Safe Operation

• Safe start-up and shut-down procedures
• Operating controls and emergency lowering systems
• Positioning, driving, and maneuvering at height
• Working near edges, live services, and other hazards

🧍‍♂️ Fall Protection & Emergency Procedures

• Use of harnesses and lanyards (where required)
• Fall prevention vs fall arrest
• Rescue plans and emergency descent procedures

🧪 Practical Assessment

• Hands-on operation of MEWP (site- or equipment-specific)
• Operator evaluation under supervision
